Lynx Smart BMS 500 (M8)
Modern battery management system
Victron Energy Lynx Smart BMS is a dedicated battery management system designed to work with the Victron Lithium Battery Smart (LiFePO4) series. The device is the ‘brain’ of the installation, providing the highest level of safety and control for the safest lithium technology available on the market.
The system offers tremendous configuration flexibility, allowing you to build 12V, 24V or 48V energy banks by connecting batteries in series and parallel. The BMS supports up to 20 battery units in a single system, allowing you to create powerful storage facilities with capacities of up to 102 kWh.
This is the ideal solution for complex installations requiring reliability. The ability to connect multiple Lynx Smart BMS modules in parallel allows for unlimited capacity scaling and ensures full redundancy – in the event of a single bank failure, the system continues to supply power without interruption.

Main Functions
Main functions and how they work
Built-in 500A contactor
The Lynx Smart BMS features a built-in 500A contactor that acts as an additional safety system, protecting the batteries in the event that the main controllers fail to switch off loads or chargers at the right time. This contactor can also act as a remote-controlled main switch for the system.

Pre-charge circuit
This system has a built-in pre-charge circuit, eliminating the risk of high inrush currents when connecting capacitive loads such as MultiPlus/Quattro inverters or others, thus eliminating the need for external pre-charging.

Monitoring and control
Monitoring and control of the BMS system is done via Bluetooth using the VictronConnect app or GX devices such as Cerbo GX, with access to the VRM Portal platform. The built-in battery monitor provides real-time information on charge status, voltage, current, historical data and other relevant parameters.

Programmable relay
& AUX terminal
Lynx Smart BMS offers the possibility to program a relay that can act as an alarm or control the alternator via an external regulator. It operates in ATC mode, activating only when the contactor is closed, ensuring safe energy management.
The built-in AUX connector provides auxiliary power in the event of low cell voltage, allowing power to be maintained for devices such as GX devices after the BMS system has switched off the loads.

System Examples
Examples of Lynx Smart BMS configurations
Lynx Smart BMS, 2x Lynx Distributor and lithium batteries
At the heart of this system is the Lynx Smart BMS with two Lynx Distributors and a Cerbo GX with a GX touch panel. These systems continuously monitor batteries, fuses, connected loads, chargers and inverters.
This system includes the following elements:
- Lynx Smart BMS with built-in contactor and battery monitor.
- Lynx Distributor with 2 fused paralleled lithium batteries
- Lynx Distributor with fused connections for chargers, inverter/charger(s) and loads.
- Cerbo GX (or other GX device).

Lynx Smart BMS only
For a very slim line system, the Lynx Smart BMS can be used just by itself. This is usefull if the system contains a single lithium battery or a single series string of lithium batteries together with a simple DC system.
Please also note that no GX device is used. It is not absolutely necessary for the operation of the Lynx Smart BMS. However, without GX device it is not possible to control compatible inverter/chargers and MPPTs via DVCC.

The Lynx Distribution System
The Lynx Distribution System is a modular busbar system that incorporates DC connections, distribution, fusing, battery monitoring and/or Lithium battery management.
